Spring in St. George 2024
As winter gave way to spring, we continued our new Sip & Support series, a way for our community to get together socially and support local businesses. This spring, we reveled at Chang Noi Thai and Ruddy & Dean. And we needed some hang time - we were busy bees in the community this spring!
There were multiple tree plantings in honor of Earth Day with our local schools (The Harbor View School P.S. 59, & Curtis High School), and our beautification committee put forth great efforts all around St. George. More than a dozen tree beds were refreshed with our Pop-Up TreeLC, and working closely with NYC Parks Dept., our teams carefully weeded and cleaned the Bay Street wave median. We also witnessed the first of many abundant daffodil blooms inside the wave median - the result of last fall's great daffodil bulb planting.
We partnered with Borough Hall's Litter Liaisons in honor of St. George's Day (April 23rd) during Green and Clean Week and tidied up our neighborhood streets and sidewalks. We kept it up with two additional spring clean up events; one, part of NYC Big Spring Clean, and the other, co-sponsored with Friends of Postcards. Our volunteers helped care for the Postcards Monument, and massively cleaned out the waterfront area flanked by the NYC Ferry, Empire Outlets, and Staten Island Ferry. We made significant progress in a location that had been long neglected and forgotten.
As spring sprung in earnest, our new "No Litter Community" signs started appearing throughout the neighborhood - dressing up yards, fences, and walkways - reminding anyone who sees it to keep it clean for the St. George community!
We also have a vibrant and inviting new addition to St. George, continuing our streak of enhancing the neighborhood for all to enjoy. In working with NycArtsCypher, SGCA sponsored the creation of new graffiti art by Dylan Giangrande to bring more color and life to a busy and beloved corner of our hood- the site of the St. George Farmer's Market.
